Zimmerman helped lead the men’s swimming & diving to first runner-up while the women’s team took home third at the American Athletic Conference during the 2019-2020 season. Through this success, Zimmerman also helped the Bearcats post 6 podium finishes at the American Athletic Conference 5 of which being for the men’s team and 1 for the women’s team. In the classroom, 26 women and 20 men were named to the AAC All-Academic Team.
The Bearcats continued to find success during the 2018-19 season. The men repeated as AAC Champions with ten athletes earning gold medals and 24 podium finishes. The women also repeated as runner-up, making a surge on the final day of the championships to claim second place. In the classroom, 29 women and 14 men were named to the AAC All-Academic Team. The women's team posted a program-best GPA in the spring and narrowly missed a top-ten GPA in the country. On the men's side, they finished second in the conference in GPA during the spring competition season.In his second season at UC, Zimmerman helped the Bearcats achieve the first AAC Championship in school history, as then men took home the title while the women finished runner-up. Five UC swimmers took home individual championships while the men won their first championship relay event. In the classroom, both the men and women posted their highest GPA's ever in the spring and both had more CSCAA academic honorees than any other program in the conference. The women's GPA for the academic year ranked 15th in the nation.
Zimmerman’s first season in Clifton ended in record fashion as his assistance in the development of the program resulted in 34 program Top-10 times, 14 NCAA B cuts, 11 school records, five individual AAC titles, one NCAA zone qualifier and one NCAA A cut. There also were a record 18 new school record holders, with 15 of those record holders returning for the 2016-2017 season. He also led the Bearcats to academic success, ending the year with a cumulative 3.401 team GPA. In total, 46 athletes were nominated to UC’s honor roll, 31 of which also were on the Dean’s List. Additionally, 36 individuals earned a spot on The American All-Academic Team and four earned NCAA Academic All-America titles
The Morrow, Ohio, native competed in the backstroke and individual medley events for the Buckeyes and was a three-time NCAA Championships qualifier, earning a pair of All-America designations during his 2014-2015 season. He twice earned All-Big Ten honors, while qualifying for the final heat at the conference championships on seven occasions. He capped his career as the school record holder in the 100 backstroke (LCM), 200 backstroke (LCM), 200 individual medley and 400 medley relay (LCM). In 2013 he was a two-time semifinalist at the World Championship Trials. Zimmerman also was named team captain both his junior and senior seasons.
Zimmerman spent the 2015-2016 season as a student assistant with the Buckeyes, working under Head Coach Bill Wadley. During his time as an assistant with OSU, he helped the men finish with a 9-1 dual meet record, a third place finish at the Big 10 championship meet and a top-15 finish at the NCAA Championship meet.
The Little Miami High School product graduated from Ohio State in 2015 with a degree in human nutrition science.
