Andy Assaley
In his fifth season with the Bearcats, Andy Assaley has assumed additional responsibilities this year in his new role as Assistant to Head Coach Andy Kennedy. Assaley now assists with on-court coaching and continues to play a role in game and practice planning, as well as spending time on the road recruiting for the Bearcats. Assaley will continue to oversee the video operations position and the breakdown of game films. Assaley joined the UC staff in 2001 as an administrative assistant and two years later was promoted to video coordinator. He has played a major role in opponent scouting through extensive film breakdowns, game preparation and assisting in on-campus recruiting efforts. Assaley coordinates all video self-scout as well as managing film exchange. Assaley also assists with the Bearcats[apos] community outreach program, as well as performing other administrative functions for the team. Last season, the Bearcat Men[apos]s Basketball program spent considerable time visiting Children[apos]s Hospital, providing turkeys during Christmas, and reading to children at Washington Park Elementary School. Before arriving at UC, Assaley served as varsity assistant and JV head coach to Howard Brownstein (winningest active coach in Cincinnati: 404 wins) at Cincinnati Country Day from 1995-2001. In both 1999 and 2001, CCD earned spots in the district finals of the state tournament while his JV Team completed a 20-0 campaign in 1999. In his six seasons at CCD, Assaley[apos]s teams won a total of four Miami Valley Conference championships. Assaley is also a veteran of the summer camp scene and has spent considerable time teaching and coaching at the prestigious Five-Star Basketball Camp, as well as Cage Scope Blue Chip, Wake Forest University, Marquette University and the University of Louisville. Andy has also had the responsibility of running the extensive summer basketball programs at UC. Assaley earned a bachelor[apos]s degree in economics (1996) and a master[apos]s in labor and employee relations (1998), both from UC. Andy taught mathematics at the Warren County Alternative School for four years from 1999-2003, working with at-risk students and has served as Vice President of the Parish Board at Holy Trinity St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church for the last two years. Assaley, a native of Cincinnati, is married to wife Sarah, with kids Cali and Isabella.
