Carl Schmid joined the University of Cincinnati department of athletics full-time in July of 2014.
He was promoted into his current role as Director/Digital Media in May 2017 after previously serving as Assistant Director of Football Video from July 2014 to 2017, student recruiting assistant Jan. 2013 to July 2014.
Schmid oversees the Bearcats digital/social media efforts, including designing/creating graphic templates, planning social strategy, creating graphics and animations, as well as various content for team and department accounts. He also assists with photography efforts during games and department events. He also serves as the sports information contact for the women’s tennis program.
Schmid maintains and runs the GoBearcats social media accounts, as well as the accounts for the Men’s Basketball program.
In his previous role, he assisted with coach’s video aspects for the Bearcats football program while handling the official football social media accounts. In his time working with the accounts, the football Twitter account grew from an estimated 1,100 followers to 30,000 and garnered 36.4 million impressions. He aided with the ideation/creation of graphics for National Signing Day, resulting in national recognition among Trenches Top Signing Day graphics. When Coach Fickell was hired he assisted with implementing Facebook Live to allow Coach to address the team just prior to the official announcement, the first time it had ever been used to do so in the sports world.
Prior to joining UC, Schmid spent two seasons as an assistant football coach at Turpin High School and three years as the head coach for the eighth-grade basketball team at Nagel Middle School.
A two-time graduate from Cincinnati, Schmid earned his bachelor’s degree in sports administration from in 2014 and master’s degree in sports administration in 2017.
He has been a lifelong resident of Cincinnati and lives in West Chester with his wife Jessica (CECH ’15).
