Joe Regruth has made quite an impact on the University of Cincinnati program since joining the staff in 2005.
Last season, Regruth[apos]s hurlers won 32 games, topping the 30-win plateau for just the sixth time in program history. He also guided the development of Steve Blevins, who set the school record for wins by a freshman and was named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American.
In 2005, Regruth led a young pitching staff that turned in the program[apos]s lowest team ERA since 1995. Along with 25 victories, Regruth[apos]s pupils cut nearly three runs off the squad[apos]s ERA prior to his arrival.
Since joining the UC family, both Josh Kay and Jack Nelson have gone on to pitch professionally after playing under Regruth[apos]s tutelage.
Regruth spent the previous eight seasons as the pitching coach at Xavier, while also spearheading the recruiting efforts. Regruth developed six players who went on to play professionally. He also coached a Freshman All-American, an Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and an A-10 Pitcher of the Year.
From 1993-96, Regruth served as the first head baseball coach at the College of Mount St. Joseph, helping the school move from the NAIA to NCAA Division III and doubling the program[apos]s win total in just three years. Following the 1996 season, Regruth was honored as the Association of Mideast Colleges Conference Coach of the Year for leading the program to the conference championship. One of Regruth[apos]s pitchers at the Mount also went on to play in the professional ranks.
Following his graduation from Xavier in 1989, Regruth completed his first tour on the Musketeer staff while earning a master[apos]s in education. In 1992, Regruth departed from Xavier and spent one season coaching in the Cincinnati St. Xavier High School program.
Regruth also served as pitching coach for the prestigious Midland Braves summer team from 1991-96.
