Since joining the Cincinnati Athletics Department in March of 2022, John Daniel has led all financial operations for the Bearcats, while serving as the administrative oversight for the UC football program.
Daniel came to Cincinnati as the CFO and Executive Senior Associate AD before moving into a Deputy AD and COO role in 2024. At the start of 2025, Daniel was promoted to his current role as the Senior Deputy Athletics Director and COO.
A close advisor to Cincinnati Director of Athletics John Cunningham, Daniel oversees all department business operations, including Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) initiatives, student-athlete revenue-sharing opportunities and ticket office operations, in addition to managing the equipment department and the football program.
He is actively involved in department fundraising and revenue generation strategies, including the onboarding of Cincy Sports Partners, UC's Athletics' new sponsorship division.
The Baton Rouge native oversees the department budget and capital projects, while serving the university's administration and finance office in a dual report role.
Among his many accomplishments is the $134 million indoor practice facility and performance center project, which will elevate Cincinnati Athletics' training, sports performance and nutrition facilities to the top of the Big 12. The facility is set to open in summer 2025.
In 2024-25, Daniel was selected for the prestigious NCAA Pathway Program, a yearlong initiative designed to prepare senior-level athletics administrators to become athletics directors or conference commissioners.
Daniel has more than 15 years of administrative experience at Power Four institutions, including serving as an Associate AD at LSU and TCU.
At LSU, Daniel was the sport supervisor for men's and women's swimming and diving and beach volleyball, while also managing oversight for the athletic department's IT team and special projects.
Before his stint at LSU, Daniel spent three years as the Associate AD for Business and Finance at TCU, where he helped overhaul the budgeting process for all sports, implementing revenue tracking processes, developing benchmark reports and writing policy and procedure manuals for the department. He also oversaw the annual audit at TCU.
Daniel worked at Texas A&M from 2012 to 2016 as the Director of Financial Reporting. He led athletics procurement and managed department reporting in addition to serving as the budgeting liaison for the 12th Man Foundation on several capital projects.
He also spent time in the business office at Maryland.
Daniel earned his bachelor's degree in business management from LSU in 2010 and his master's degree in sports management in Baton Rouge in 2011. He also obtained his MBA from Ole Miss.
He and his wife, Arleen, have twin daughters, Dorothy and Evelyn.
