John Matsko began his role as Cincinnati's Senior Associate Athletics Director and Associate Vice President of Development on Feb. 12, 2024.
He brings more than 20 years of development experience to UC, and most recently served as the Senior Associate Director of the University of Arkansas' Razorback Foundation.
"I'm thrilled to welcome John Matsko and his family to our University of Cincinnati team," Cunningham said. "John has impressive experience as a fundraiser and a leader at some of the country's top programs. I believe he will help take our department to the next level as we continue to grow in the Big 12 and find ways to remain on the forefront of the ever-changing college athletics landscape."
He helped oversee all development and fundraising activities for the Razorback Foundation, including the annual fund and all capital fundraising projects. Matsko assisted in raising more than $350m in total gifts over his tenure with the Razorbacks. Throughout his time with the Razorback Foundation, he continually modernized and expanded fundraising efforts to grow the donor base to more than 16,000 members and helped create a relationship-oriented culture of philanthropy.
"The UC community welcomes John and his family to Cincinnati," said Steve Rosfeld, Vice President for Development, UC Foundation. "John's leadership and proven track record of elevating philanthropic impact at multiple power four institutions shined through during this competitive search process. As we compete at the highest levels in the Big 12, John and the entire UCATS team will be critical partners in our efforts to enhance the student-athlete experience."
Matsko also served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Development at West Virginia from 2008-13 and as the Assistant Director for Development at Texas at El Paso from 2006-08.
He worked in several roles at Kansas from 2001 to 2006.
"I am very grateful to both John Cunningham and Steve Rosfeld for the opportunity to lead UCATS fundraising efforts," Matsko said. "I look forward to working with the University, the UC Foundation, our coaches and staff, student-athletes, donors, fans and the entire UCATS team to help take UC Athletics to the next level. My family and I are excited to be in Cincinnati, and to join the Bearcat family."
Matsko earned his master's degree in sports administration from Kansas in 2002 and his bachelor's degree in finance from LSU in 2000. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in education from Kansas.
Matsko and his wife Casey have two daughters, Eila (8), and Sayler (5), and two Labrador retrievers, Chloe and Stella.
