Former Michigan State two-way standout Lorenzo Guess rejoins the UC staff in 2009 as the tight ends coach.
Guess, who was a staff assistant with UC[apos]s strength and conditioning program in 2006, joins the Bearcats after a one-year stint as the men[apos]s basketball strength and conditioning coach at USF.
The former two-way Michigan State student-athlete played football and basketball for the Spartans and helped the Tom Izzo led-team to the 1999 Final Four.
Before arriving at USF, Guess worked as the head strength and conditioning coach at Alcorn State University. Prior to working at ASU, he spent time at Kentucky State University as the Secondary Coach/Strength and Conditioning.
During the 2006 season, Guess served as a staff assistant for the University of Cincinnati[apos]s football program with the strength and conditioning staff.
In 2005, he served as the Secondary Coach and Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for Tiffin University.
Guess graduated from Tiffin University with his Masters in Business Administration in 2007. He also earned a bachelor[apos]s degree in Human Resources and Political Science from Michigan State University in 2002.
While at MSU, Guess was a four-year letterman in football and two-year letterman in basketball. He was part of two Big Ten titles and a Final Four appearance (1999). The defensive back also had the privilege of playing in both the Citrus Bowl, securing a win against the University of Florida, and the Silicon Valley Bowl, defeating Fresno State University.
During his time at MSU, Guess was a major component of the 1999 defense which was ranked No. 1 in the Big Ten and No. 7 nationally under head coach Nick Saban. During the 2000 and 2001 seasons, the defensive units led the Big Ten in pass defense and were among the nation[apos]s Top-10.
Guess was also an Academic All-Big Ten selection from 1997-98.
