Mary Wineberg

Mary Wineberg is in her fifth season as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Cincinnati track program. Wineberg[apos]s responsibilities range from assisting with recruiting, and working on the development of both the men[apos]s and women[apos]s sprinters.

While competing for the Bearcats as a student-athlete, Wineberg set the school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.30 and placed as high as second place in the Conference USA Championships.

Since graduating with a B.S. in education from UC in 2002, Wineberg has gone on to compete at the World level. Wineberg represented Team USA at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing where she won Olympic Gold as the lead off runner of the USA 4x400m relay. Alongside her success at the Olympics, Wineberg has also acquired a silver and bronze medal on the national stage. Wineberg has been ranked as high as 8th in the World in the 400m dash.

In July of 2009, Wineberg was one of three athletes selected for induction as the Class of 2010 into the James P. Kelly, Sr. University of Cincinnati Athletics Hall of Fame.

After the Olympic Games, Wineberg took 2009 off from running to start a family. She gave birth to her daughter Brooklyn on August 3, 2009. Just 1 month later, Wineberg began training was on the comeback trail. Less than one year later, Wineberg finished in the top ten in the nation at USA Outdoor Nationals. She continues her training with her sights set on the 2012 Olympics.

She is married to sprints coach Chris Wineberg. The couple welcomed a daughter, Brooklyn, in August 2009.
