Sydney Shelton was promoted to the role of Director of Fan Experience and Special Projects in April of 2025. In her role, she serves as the liaison between athletics and external fan experiences avenues such as traffic, parking, concessions, etc. She is the lead for LAVA.ai., the UC Athletics Fan Council and fan surveys. Her main focus is elevating the fan experience for football and men's basketball, ensuring all facets of game day are engaging for fans and run smoothly.
She was originally hired as the Director of Marketing and Fan Experience at the University of Cincinnati in May 2024. In that role she was tasked with overseeing marketing strategies and enhancing fan engagement for men's basketball, women's soccer, and track and field, Shelton also led the BMA Internship Program within the Marketing and Promotions Department.
Her journey to UC was marked by significant accomplishments at Marshall University, where she served as the Director of Marketing and Fan Engagement. Beginning as a part-time marketing assistant in March 2021, Shelton swiftly rose through the ranks, eventually earning the Director position in November of the same year. Her dedication and contributions led to a promotion in June 2023.
During her tenure at Marshall, Shelton made notable contributions, revitalizing the game day experience through enhanced music, interactive games, and increased fan interaction. She played a pivotal role in fostering a "Fans First" mindset within the Athletic Department and spearheaded initiatives such as the revamped athletics website and the creation of The Stampede, a rebranded student group aimed at connecting students with athletics. Additionally, she served as the external SAAC liaison and played a key role in organizing various on-campus events.
Shelton’s journey in sports administration began in the Sports Information Department at Marshall, where she worked from spring 2020 to March 2021. In addition to her role as a Sports Information Director for the tennis team, she assisted in day-to-day operations. Her multifaceted experience also includes serving as a teaching assistant for the Marshall Communications Department and as a graduate assistant with the Buck Harless Student Athlete Program.
A proud alumna of Marshall University, Shelton holds a bachelor's degree in public relations and a master's degree in communication studies. During her undergraduate years, she interned with Marshall Communications, held editorial positions at the Marshall Parthenon, and contributed as a student broadcaster with WMUL. She also served as a student manager in the Olympic sports equipment office.
Before her time at Marshall, Shelton attended Danville Community College, where she played NJCAA Division III volleyball for two years.
