AUSTIN, Texas ? Cincinnati senior David Payne (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming) finished sixth in the preliminary heats of the 110-meter hurdles at the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Meyers Field on Thursday, qualifying for the national finals on Friday.
Payne?s time of 13.53 seconds equals his time from last year?s finals, where he finished third. It equals the fastest time in UC?s history in a legal wind. Payne ran a wind-aided 13.42 at the NCAA Regionals two weeks ago. Payne races at 9 p.m. ET on Friday, attempting to become the first national champion in UC track history.
Teammate Kenny Wade (Toledo, Ohio/Rogers) finished 21st in the prelims of the 200-meter dash later Thursday night. His time of 20.95 seconds is the fastest-ever by a Bearcat in a legal wind.
Chris Wineberg (Springfield, Ohio/Northeastern) begins competition in the decathlon on Friday.
