AUSTIN, Texas ?David Payne (Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming) matched his wind-legal school record of 13.53 seconds to place sixth in the 110-meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships on Friday. It is second All-American honor, making him the first Bearcat to earn All-American status twice in the same event in their career.
The race was won by Florida?s Josh Walker in 13.32 seconds. Payne?s time equals his time in last year?s NCAA finals and in this year?s prelims. Payne has already qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials next month in Sacramento.
Chris Wineberg (Springfield, Ohio/Northeastern) started strong in the first day of the decathlon. After five events Wineberg, the UC record-holder in the event, is in ninth place with 3,924 points. His best finish of the day was sixth in the 400-meter run with a time of 48.87 seconds. The final five events take place on Saturday.
