CINCINNATI, Ohio - Three Bearcats scored in double-figures as the University of Cincinnati topped Findlay, 81-50, in exhibition women's basketball action on Thursday night at Fifth Third Arena. It was the final tune up before UC's season opener on Saturday, Nov. 19 against St. Francis (Pa.) at 3 p.m.

Freshman Shelly Bellman led all scorers with 16 points to go with eight rebounds and four assists. Emy Ogide carded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Karen Twehues added 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting. Micah Harvey added nine assists for the Bearcats, who committed just 14 turnovers after recording 30 in the first exhibition game.

"With five freshman and four sophomores playing so much," said head coach Laurie Pirtle, "we will take this game and evaluate it and learn from it and be ready in a week for the opener."

Eleven Bearcats scored in the game and 10 grabbed at least one rebound.

"This is a smart team," added Pirtle. "The basketball IQ is really high and we can really score. This the deepest team we've ever had."

Brittany Wells led Findlay with 11 points. UF was outrebounded 40 to 26 as UC held a 21-3 advantage in second chance points and a 46-18 advantage in points in the paint. The Bearcats shot 52 percent from the field.

Leading 8-7 at the 15:48 mark, the Bearcats embarked on a 16-5 run, holding UF to two field goals over the next nine minutes. Bellman and Kahla Roudebush hit threes in the run and six different Bearcats scored as UC claimed a 24-12 lead with seven minutes to go.

UC used an 8-0 run, with Jill Stephens scoring four of the points, to pull ahead 37-18 just before the break. A Twehues triple helped UC go into the lockerroom with a 40-23 advantage.

Bellman led UC with eight and five rebounds at the break to go with three assists. Roudebush, Tweheues and Michelle Jones all had five points and Harvey gave out five assists. UC shot 53 percent from the field and committed just five turnovers.

Wells led the Oilers with six points.

After back-to-back baskets by Harvey and Anne Stephens pushed the lead to 44-23, Findlay used an 8-0 run to close to 46-33 with 16:08 to go.

The Bearcats responded with another big run to put the game away. Ogide had five points in an 11-2 stretch as UC pulled ahead 59-40 with 11 minutes to go.

Bellman then scored the first six points in a 10-0 run to put UC ahead 69-44 with five minutes to go.
