CINCINNATI, Ohio---Adam Yeager scored in the bottom of the seventh inning with the game-tying run, causing the fifth and final game of the University of Cincinnati Red/Black World Series to end in a 10-10 tie. The series ended with the Red Team holding a 3-0-2 advantage.
Logan Parker was one of the offensive heroes of the day for the Red Team as he finished with four RBI. Jon DeLuca finished with three hits and two runs, while Josh Harrison had two RBI and Keith Kampe three runs.
On the Black Team, Dustin Alvey, Brian Szarmach and Jack Nelson each finished with two RBI. Alvey added two hits and two runs, while Yeager scored twice.
The scoring started early with the Red Team plating five against starter Dan Osterbrock. Parker got the scoring started with a two-run single, while DeLuca and Harrison also added RBI in the frame. Team Red added a sixth run in the second when Kampe scored on an error. The scoring barrage continued in the third with Red jumping to an 8-0 lead. DeLuca scored on a Harrison single for the first marker, with Nick Maragas coming home on a groundout.
The Black Team finally broke through for a pair of runs in the last of the third, making it an 8-2 ball game. Alvey picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly, while Nelson picked up one on a sacrifice fly.
The Red Team seemed to take control with two more markers in the fifth that pushed it to a 10-2 lead. Kampe knocked an RBI single to center for the first run of the inning with a Parker sacrifice fly bringing the latter home with the second.
The wheels came off for Red in the last of the fifth as a total of 11 Black Team batters came to the plate, with six coming across to score. A total of four walks and two hit batsmen proved fatal for the Red Team in the inning. Szarmach had the big hit of the inning as he lined a two-run double down the left field line. Nelson added an RBI single in the frame, with Roger Prettyman, John Virostko and Yeager also picking up RBI in the inning.
The sixth inning saw Alvey score a run on an error to make it 10-9, setting the stage for Yeager's game-tying marker in the seventh.
The finale to the series wraps up fall practice for the Bearcats. UC will open the 2006 regular season Feb. 10-12, travelling to last season's national runner-up, Florida.
