THE MEET:

The meet begins with prelims on Thursday starting at 6 p.m. Prelims will start at 9 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday with finals following at 6 p.m. both nights. Results will be available at www. MURedHawks.com and www.UCBearcats.com. BEARCAT BITES:

• Senior Ann Degenstein has won six individual titles this season, and her 200 butterfly (36th) and 100 butterfly (58th) times are ranked in the top 60 nationally.

• Freshman Bjorn Mates was the lone event winner for the UC men at the Indiana Invite. Mates won the 200 backstroke, an event he has won each of the four times he has competed. His top time is just one second shy of an NCAA `B' qualifying mark.

• Senior Steve Marshall, returning after missing the entire 2004-05 campaign, has been impressive thus far this season. The Akron native has won two 200 breaststroke titles and finished second in a third. He holds the top UC time in the 200 breast and is just .05 behind David Gustavsson's time in the 100 breast.

LAST TIME OUT:

The Bearcats competed at the Indiana University Invitational on Nov. 18-20 at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind. Senior Ann Degenstein and freshman Bjorn Mates won individual event titles for the Bearcats at a meet that featured some of the top teams in the nation. The men's team was led by Mates, who won the 200 backstroke in 1:48.22 and finished in the top five in two other events. The freshman from Germany placed fifth in both the 500 freestyle (4:36.64) and the 100 backstroke (51.17). Degenstein, a 2005 NCAA qualifier, won the 200 butterfly in a season-best 2:02.35. The reigning Conference USA Swimmer of the Year also finished second in the 100 butterfly (56.33) and third in the 500 free (4:59.90).

BEARCATS TO OPEN KEATING NATATORIUM:

The UC swimming and diving teams will welcome the addition of the new Keating Natatorium in the heart of Lindner Varsity Village on the Cincinnati campus. The Bearcats have spent the last three years training at St. Xavier High School. The lack of diving facilities at St. Xavier have made it difficult for UC to field a competitive diving squad. Keating Natatorium will give the Bearcats an opportunity to host home meets and field an entire team. The natatorium is slated to open in January.

UP NEXT:

The Bearcats will have time off to train over the holidays and return to competition on Friday, Jan. 13 against BIG EAST rival Louisville in the first meet to be held at the new Keating Natatorium.
