BOSTON, Mass. -- Former University of Cincinnati track and field athlete and current volunteer assistant coach Mary Danner finished second in the 400 meters at the AT&T 2006 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships held Feb. 24-26 at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College.
After running a 53.72 in preliminaries on Saturday, Danner sped to a 52.69 in the finals to place second, behind only world record-holder Sanya Richards.
Former Bearcats David Payne and Brandon Hon also competed in the championships. Payne placed fifth in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing in 7.54. Hon ran a 7.95 in the preliminaries of the same event.
Danner, UC's record holder in the indoor and outdoor 400 meters, will take part in the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Moscow, Russia, on March 10-12.
Former UC track and field standouts and current volunteer assistant coaches, Chris Wineberg and Ben Haber will compete at the 2006 USA Indoor Combined Events Championships on March 3-4 in Chapel Hill, N.C. The two will be joined by current Bearcat Ashley Wilhelm, who will compete in the pentathlon.
