Spring Break Soccer Diaries

Spring Break Soccer DiariesSpring Break Soccer Diaries

March 24, 2006

Like a lot of college students, the University of Cincinnati men's soccer team has traveled to Florida for spring break. Unlike most college students, the Bearcats are preparing for the upcoming fall season with two-a-day training sessions and matches against the U.S. U-17 National Team, Central Florida, and Rollins College. Over the next six days, the UC players will share their experiences through the UC Soccer Spring Break Diaries. Today's entry was submitted by Mike Dwyer.

No wake-up call today! After a quality win yesterday, Coach loosened the reins and left the whip in its holster. Believe it or not we were granted a DAY OFF. Well sort of...

Hydrotherapy instructor, Dan Ensley, led us through some underwater aerobics allowing our bods to recoup a little from our match against the U-17's the day before. Those calories burned were quickly replaced by chocolate chip pancakes, eggs, ham and double bacon at IHOP--Hassdaddy's favorite.

Though the weather looked a little gray it was still warm enough to hit the surf. By the suggestion of Kenny Anaba, we were off to find the beachfront hot spot--Kenny's "." After endless traffic lights, canal crossing, drawbridge delays, and fights over radio dominance in the vans we were nowhere near where we wanted to be. Needless to say, nowhere did just fine. It was, after all, our day off. We disembarked the vans, and then hitch-hiked seven miles to the infamous "." This, of course, could not have been done without the help of the parents of Brad Simpson and Scott McKinney. When we finally arrived, we nailed some waves, dug a hole to , and got a handle on the situation. That was nothing compared to Kevin Schrand's performance as he demolished the single pounder at Cheeburger Cheeburger. The restaurant owner was so impressed that his photo was taken and placed on the wall of fame.

Dinner was another Floridian culture experience. Embraced by some disgusted by others, the coaching staff decided to treat us to a nice sea food dinner. A nice dinner like this meant dressed to impress. As the tradition with any UC Men's Soccer team dinner, the winner, as judged by the restaurant managers and servers, would be awarded with a delectable dessert. The voting process here in was quite complicated (which to us was no surprise) and quite controversial. The three finalists were Collin, Kenny, and Lionel. As stated in the rule book under section XXIV: If in which there is a tie, by which there usually is always sometimes, the selected finalist must perform a Zoolander walk off. After going round after round, Kenny Anaba walked away as the undisputed best dressed UC soccer team member.
