Swimming & Diving Opens Season at Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Seven first-place finishes highlighted the Cincinnati swimming teams' performance at the Oakland Tri-Meet on Saturday, Oct. 28. The Bearcats men fell to the host Golden Grizzlies, 130-102, and defeated Wayne State, 121-110. The women fell to Wayne State, 123.5-112.5, and Oakland, 134.5-83.5.

Bjorn Mates led the men, winning both the 200-yard IM and the 200-yard backstroke. Marcel Kleiner won the 50-yard free and finished second in the 100-yard free. Stephen Wood and Josh Schneider followed Kleiner in the 100-yard free in third and fourth. UC took three of the top four spots in the 200-yard breaststroke with Steve Marshall, Kuba Carda and Aaron Celik finished first, second and fourth.

For the women, the 400-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relay teams both won. Annelie Jonsson, Emma Misanik and Abi Bower swept the top three spots in the 200-yard breaststroke and Randi Vogel took second in both the 200-yard IM and the 200-yard backstroke. Sisters Ellie and Gerdien de Jong finished second and third in the 50-yard free.

The Bearcats host their first home scored meets of the season when they host Oakland on Friday, Nov. 3 and Pittsburgh on Saturday, Nov. 4 in the Keating Aquatics Center.
