LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Marcel Kleiner won two events and set a pool record to lead the Cincinnati men's swimming and diving team to a 121-102 win over Louisville at the Ralph R. Wright Natatorium on Saturday. The UC women were defeated by the Cardinals, 141-90.
Kleiner posted wins in the 50 free and 100 free, setting a pool record in the former in a time of 20.92 seconds. Bjorn Mates won the 200 back in 1:51.27, as UC took the top three spots in the event. In the 200 free, Steve Wood took the top spot in 1:42.84 and Mates placed second.
Jeremy Peter, competing for the first time as a Bearcat, won the 1000 free in 9:40.70 and finished second in the 200 breast and 200 IM, qualifying for the BIG EAST Championships in both. Jakub Carda was the sixth event winner for the Bearcats, taking the 500 free title in 4:45.59. Mates and Kleiner also teamed with Steve Marshall and Josh Schneider to win the 400 medley relay.
The women took home four event victories, including a sweep of the top four spots in the 500 free, led by Paola Rivas (5:10.27). UC also claimed the top four positions in the 200 breast, with Annelie Jonsson placing first in 2:22.73.
Randi Vogel won the 200 back in 2:06.67 and the team of Karen Brasier, Elinore de Jong, Lange Gilby and Alex Doyle won the 400 free relay in 3:36.24.
The Bearcats open a three-meet homestand on Tuesday, Jan. 16 when they host Miami (Ohio) at the Keating Aquatics Center starting at 5 p.m.
