    - The Bearcats picked up a historic win and a vital BIG EAST victory when they upset No. 24 DePaul 62-44 on Sunday at Fifth Third Arena. The win boosts UC's home record to 9-0 overall and 2-0 in the BIG EAST.

    The win is UC's first over a Top 25 team since they upset No. 19 Xavier, 75-59 on Dec. 12, 2000 at Fifth Third Arena. sophomore Michelle Jones posted the third double-double of her career to lead the way.

    The Bearcats (11-5, 2-3 BIG EAST) pounded DePaul (11-6, 1-3 BE) on the boards, 45-21 - a season-low for the Blue Demons which included just two offensive rebounds, both coming in the second half. A trio of Bearcats inflicted the most damage, tying or surpassing their career highs. Jones led the wrecking crew with a career-high 13 boards (nine were offensive) and added a game-high 19 points. Angel Morgan tied a career high with 11 boards, as did Treasure Humphries with the nine she hauled in.

    "We thought we could out rebound them," said UC head coach Laurie Pirtle. "The defensive rebounds Angel pulled down were huge. She can go up with one hand and get it and has a great vertical. We felt really strongly about Michelle. (Assistant coach) Tammy Douglass is helping our post players get better. Treasure Humphries is just a competitor. She will fight for everything."

    Humphries sank a pair of free throws to give UC its largest lead, 62-44, with 1:03 remaining in the game. She finished with 16 points, six assists, nine rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Freshman Carla Jacobs added 14 points, three assists and three steals.

    and DePaul battled to a classic BIG EAST first half with a 23-23 tie after 20 minutes of action. UC led 7-2 to start the contest, but the Blue Demons used an 18-4 run to take the largest lead of the half, 20-11, with 6:39 to play. suffered nearly a six-minute drought - Treasure Humphries scored on a jumper with 12:25 and the scoring famine was broken by a Jones lay up at the 6:19 mark. The Bearcats clawed their way back and whittled the lead to get within one with 3:40 left in the first half. Jones' put back with 2:29 showing on the clock put UC up, 21-20. Jones sank two free throws to give the Bearcats their 23 points at the half. Samantha Quigley drilled a trey in the final seconds to tie the game up. UC out rebounded the Blue Demons, 19-8, in the first half. Jones posted 11 points and nine rebounds to pace the Bearcats.

    The Bearcats close out the non-conference portion of their schedule with the Skyline Chili Women's Crosstown Shootout, presented by Fifth Third Bank, on Wednesday, Jan. 17 when they take on rival Xavier. Tip off is 7 p.m.
