FOR STARTERS:
The University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming and diving teams face BIG EAST rival West Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Keating Aquatics Center at 1 p.m. The Bearcats men are 5-4 this season and have won their last two meets, but face an 8-0 Mountaineer squad. UC's women have posted a 1-8 mark in dual meets this year, while the WVU women are 6-3.
BEARCAT BITES:
Sixteen men and 13 women have qualified for the 2007 BIG EAST Championships. Bjorn Mates has made the qualifying times in seven events and Jakub Carda and Marcel Kleiner have each done so in six. Randi Vogel leads the women with qualifying marks in seven events and Alex Doyle has done so in six events.
Senior Gerdien de Jong reached the NCAA `B' standard in the 100 free at the Miami Invitational and led off the UC record-setting 400 free relay team that also met the `B' standard.
LAST TIME VS. WEST VIRGINIA:
UC suffered a pair of defeats at WVU in its first BIG EAST dual meets on Jan. 20, 2006. The men fell, 118-85, while the women were defeated, 118.5-80.5. The Bearcats picked up six event wins against the Mountaineers, three each from the men and women. David Gustavsson and Bjorn Mates finished one-two in the 200-yard freestyle, then Mates won the 100-yard breaststroke. The 200-yard freestyle team also posted a win. Karen Brasier earned the first win for the women, taking first in the 100-yard butterfly. Randi Vogel then finished first in the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle relay team also won.
LAST TIME OUT:
The men's swimming and diving team won a thrilling meet over local rival Miami (Ohio), 121-116, on Jan. 16. On the women's side, the RedHawks were victorious, 151-88. The men's meet was tied heading into the final event, the 200 freestyle relay, which the Bearcats won by .20 seconds. Josh Schneider won the 50 and 100 free to lead the Bearcats to eight event victories. For the women, Annelie Jonsson won the 400 IM and Randi Vogel recorded a win in the 500 free.

UC hosts its final home meet of the season on Friday, Jan. 26 when Kentucky comes to the Keating Aquatics Center. The meet begins at 4 p.m.
