BETHSEDA, Md.---Georgetown's Matt Harrigan drove the game-winning single through the right side in the bottom of the ninth inning, handing the Hoyas a series-clinching 6-5 win over Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon at Shirley Povich Field. The setback represents the Bearcats sixth one-run loss of the season.

Trailing 5-3 heading into the top of the eighth, UC (14-13, 2-4 BIG EAST) battled back, trimming its deficit to one run on a Jamel Scott RBI double. In the ninth, Josh Harrison led the frame off with a double and one out later scored the game-tying run on an RBI single off the bat of Neall French. After a walk to Adam Yeager, Georgetown closer Daniel Kennedy got the final two outs to send the game to the bottom of the ninth tied at five.

The last of the ninth led off with Jake Geglein (1-1) hitting Derek Degrijs with an offering, before the latter moved up on a ground ball out. After an intentional walk to Brandon Davis, Matt Iannetta moved Degrijs to third with a fly out, setting the stage for Harrigan's heroics.

The Bearcats got on the board first, getting a French RBI groundout in the top of the first against Georgetown (12-16, 2-4 BIG EAST) starter Jimmy Saris. The Hoyas matched the marker in their half of the first as Matthew Bouchard scored on an Iannetta RBI double.

Cincinnati went back ahead in the third on Brian Szarmach's lead-off homer and went up 3-1 when Ryan Baker scored on a fourth inning Georgetown error. The Hoyas got one of the runs back in the fifth as Mark McLaughlin's RBI single scored Kelly Muir.

In the seventh, Georgetown took control of the game, pushing three runs across against the UC bullpen to take a 5-3 lead. With one out, McLaughlin singled and Degrijs doubled to chase Adam Calez. New pitcher Evan Sanford then surrendered a walk, a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch to bring Iannetta on with two men in scoring position. The North Carolina transfer came through with a clutch, two-run single to push the Hoyas in front.

Baker had one of his best days as a Bearcat, going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Scott added a pair of hits and Szarmach's homer stretched his hit streak to 13 games. It was also a historic day for Tony Campana as his first inning stolen base allowed him to set a UC single season record for steals with 36.

Michael Hill turned in a quality outing on the mound for the Bearcats, striking out eight and allowing just two hits and two runs in five innings of work. Geglein was the tough luck loser allowing the game-winner in two innings.

Saris hung tough for 7.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, but striking out 11. Kennedy (2-2) worked the last 1.1 innings to earn the win. Iannetta led the Georgetown offense with three RBI and two hits.

Cincinnati will be back in action on Tuesday, traveling to Dayton for a 3 p.m. contest.
