- Series record: Notre Dame leads, 17-6
- Prior to the game, UC Director of Athletics Mike Thomas presented Head Coach Brian Cleary with a game ball from Cleary's 250th win at Cincinnati. The milestone came on March 18 vs. Chicago State.
- The victory by the Bearcats snapped a seven-game win streak in the series by Notre Dame. UC last defeated the Irish with a 6-2 win on March 29, 1980.
- Neall French (seven games), Tony Campana (six) and Michael Earley (five) all extended their hit streaks. A 0-for-3 night for Josh Harrison snapped his five-game streak.
- Cincinnati improved its record in one-run games to 3-6 this season.
- The Bearcats wore their red uniform tops for just the second time this season and the first time at home.
- Campana jumped from 13th to 12th on UC's career stolen bases list with 39, passing Tim Deffinger (1976-79).
- Steve Blevins moved up on a pair UC career charts including into a tie for 10th in wins (14) and a tie for 17th in starts (25).
- Billy Welsh's fourth save of the year vaulted him into a tie for 16th on UC's career list and into a tie for 14th on the single season chart.
- French matched his career-high for the fifth time with three hits.
- Earley scored a pair of runs in a game for the first time in his career.
- Blevins' eight innings pitched matched his season-high.
- Cincinnati had its streak of double figure hits in a game halted at five.
