NOTRE DAME, IN - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team stayed unbeaten in BIG EAST action, playing to a 1-1 draw against Notre Dame, the nation's second-ranked team, on Friday night (Sept. 28) at Alumni Field. The Bearcats moved to 3-4-1 overall and 2-0-1 in BIG EAST play, while No. 2 Notre Dame moved to 5-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in conference action.
Junior captain Brad Simpson (Novi, MI/Novi) scored his first career goal, heading in a Lionel Jackson (Southfield, MI/Birmingham Groves) corner kick in the 53rd minute to give UC a 1-0 lead. Jackson tallied his team-leading fifth assist on the Simpson goal.
Notre Dame knotted the match in the 76th minute on a header by Matt Besler.
The Bearcats thwarted several Notre Dame scoring opportunities in the overtime sessions, remaining unbeaten against the Irish in their last three meetings (2-0-1). UC has not lost to Notre Dame in three meetings since joining the BIG EAST in 2005. The Irish were nationally ranked for each meeting.
Freshman goalkeeper Miguel Rosales (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill), the reigning BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, made six saves.
The Bearcats continue BIG EAST action, taking on Marquette in Milwaukee on Sunday, Sept. 30. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT at Valley Fields.
