CINCINNATI -- Preparing for the first varsity lacrosse game in school history, head coach Lellie Swords signed 13 student-athletes to national letters of intent during the 2007-08 early signing period.
"We are very excited about the 13 young women that have signed to play at the University of Cincinnati," stated Swords. "The Class of 2012 is an outstanding group who possess talent, athleticism, and a passion for the game. This was a very important class for us and all 13 players will make an immediate impact on our program. They will help CATAPULT us into the BIG EAST Conference in the spring of 2009."
The group emphasizes regional and BIG EAST recruiting. Eight are from Maryland, with three Ohio natives choosing to stay close to home and a pair from Pennsylvania.
They are split up into five midfielders, four on defense, three attackers and one goalie.
Swords added, "All 13 individuals possess tremendous work ethic, competitive drive, and will challenge themselves to be the best both on and off the field. I look forward to seeing this group excel in the classroom, on the field and in the UC community"
The University of Cincinnati will begin its first season of varsity lacrosse on Feb. 17, when it travels to Nashville, Tenn. to face Vanderbilt at 2 p.m.
