FINDLAY, OH - The University of Cincinnati men's and women's track and field teams each finished second at the 2008 edition of the All-Ohio Championships Saturday (Feb. 16) at the Malcolm Athletic Center.
The men's team posted five event champions, while the women posted four.
Freshman Natasha Burse (Garland, TX/Richardson) won both the 60 meters and the 200 meters (24.98), setting a school record in the 60 with a 7.58. She bested Charlyn Ray's 7.62, set in 2002.
Lilian Jelimo (Kapsabet, Kenya/Kapsabet Girls) won the 3000 meters in 9:56.49 and Brittany Klima (Ottoville, OH/Ottoville) captured the pole vault title with a 12' 2" clearance.
Senior Ije Obiorah (Topeka, KS/Washburn Rural) finished fourth in the triple jump (34' 7-1/2") and seventh in the long jump (17' 4-3/4").
The men were led by event champs Dayo Igeleke (Las Vegas, NV/Liberty), John Dixon (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield), Brandon Fitch (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek), Cameron Widget (Youngstown, OH/Chaney), and Keller Schnier (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle).
Igeleke won the 60 meters in 6.86 and finished fifth in the 200 meters (22.59). Dixon won the 3000 meters (8:39.32), Widget was first in the long jump (21' 10-1/4") and Schnier won the heptathlon (4507). Fitch set a school record with a 7' 1/2" high jump, topping Damon Kurtz, who cleared 7' 1/4" in 1988.
Ian Jarman (Felicity, OH/Felicity-Franklin) set a school mark in the weight throw with a 63' 4-3/4" heave, finishing fourth. He knocked Richard Hurst, who threw the weight 61' 1/2" in 1991, from the record book.
The Bearcat women will travel to New York City for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships next weekend.
