NEW YORK - Monica Hundley (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) posted the top time in the BIG EAST this season in the 60 meter hurdles and Lilian Jelimo (Kapsabet, Kenya/Kapsabet Girls) and Brittany Klima (Ottoville, OH/Ottoville) each set school records on the first day of competition at the 2008 BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Bearcats stand in ninth place at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory.

Hundley finished first in the preliminaries in the 60 hurdles with a school-record 8.41. Freshman Kaylon Eppinger (Warrensville Heights, OH/Warrensville Heights) also moved into the finals in the event, running a season-best 8.65.

Jelimo shaved over 25 seconds off her own school record in the 5,000 meter run, finishing fourth in 16:37.40, which meets the provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships. Freshman Jill Glassmeyer (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) was ninth in the event, finishing in 17:18.34.

Klima broke Tara Meier's school record in the pole vault, set at last year's BIG EAST Championships. The senior cleared 13' 3-1/2" to finish second and snap a string of two straight BIG EAST titles for the Bearcats in the pole vault. Klima won the 2007 BIG EAST Outdoor title, while teammate Meier won the 2007 indoor crown.

Freshman Natasha Burse (Garland, TX/Richardson) moved into the finals in the 60 meter dash with a 7.61 and finished 10th in prelims in the 200 meter dash in 24.76.

The BIG EAST Championships will conclude on Sunday.
