EAST LANSING, Mich. - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at No. 24 Michigan State on Wednesday (Oct. 22) afternoon at Old College Field. The loss snapped a two-match winning streak for the Bearcats, dropping their record to 5-8-2 overall in 2008.Michigan State (9-5-0) avenged a 2-0 loss to the Bearcats in 2007 with its seventh win in its last eight matches. MSU's Zac Scaffidi scored in the 31st minute of the match and one of the top goal scorers in the nation, Doug DeMartin, tallied his 14th goal in the 54th minute to send the Spartans to the win.
UC and Michigan State each posted 10 shots, with Bearcats goalkeeper Matt Williams (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) making three saves. MSU keeper Avery Steinlege, the reigning Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week, made six saves to post the clean sheet for the Spartans.
UC topped the No. 11 Spartans last season on Halloween at Gettler Stadium. The Bearcats had won two straight for the first time this season after wins against Alabama A&M and Rutgers last week.
UC gets back into conference action on Saturday, Oct. 25, welcoming Syracuse to Gettler Stadium for a 7 p.m. kick off. UC will honor its lone senior, Brad Simpson (Novi, Mich./Novi), prior to the match.
