CINCINNATI - Kahla Roudebush (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) scored a game-high 28 points and the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team wrapped up its non-conference slate with a 75-65 win against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Tuesday (Dec. 30) night at Fifth Third Arena.
Roudebush added nine rebounds and six assists in 40 minutes of action and hit six three-pointers. She is one three shy of fifth place in school history for three-pointers made in her career.
Michelle Jones (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mt. Notre Dame) scored 14 points for the Bearcats (10-3) and added five rebounds and Jill Stephens (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg South) chipped in 12 points and five boards.
The Red Flash (3-8) were led by Allison Daly, who scored 23 points, including five threes, and added nine rebounds.
UC was in control during the first half, taking a 29-22 lead into the half.
Saint Francis opened the second half with a flurry of three-pointers, making four of their first five shots to open the stanza and cutting the UC lead to 37-34 with 17:21 to go.
UC built its lead to 10 points on three different occasions, but couldn't put the Red Flash away.
A 19-10 SFU run over a seven-minute span cut the Bearcat lead to 60-59 with 4:52 to play. That was as close as Saint Francis would get as UC scored 10 of the next 12 points to push the lead to nine, 70-61, with 2:14 left.
Four straight points pulled SFU to within five, but UC knocked down 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to put the game away.
UC led the entire 40 minutes, despite turning the ball over a season-high 19 times.
Angel Morgan (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield North) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for UC, which owned a 42-35 edge on the glass.
UC allowed 60 points for just the second time this season, but the 75 points scored were a season high and the most since an 82-69 win against Central Michigan on Dec. 17, 2007.
The Bearcats open BIG EAST play on Saturday, Jan. 3, hosting Villanova at 2 p.m. in Fifth Third Arena. The game will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Network.
