IN THE STARTING BLOCKS:

The University of Cincinnati's women's indoor track and field team opens its season on Saturday, Jan. 10, when it travels to Bloomington, Ind., to compete in the Indiana Open. The meet will be hosted at Gladstein Fielhouse on Jan. 10, 2009, with the first event scheduled for competition at 11 a.m. ET.

The meet will include 13 colleges and universities as well as five club teams. Also competing in Gladstein Fielhouse this weekend will be Beijing Olympian and former Bearcat Mary Wineberg, who will run in the 60m and 400m dashes.

BEARCAT BITES:

• Sophomore Lilian Jelimo looks to continue her indoor success after breaking the school records in the 3,000- and 5,000-meter races at the BIG EAST indoor championships last season.

• Sophomore Natasha Burse returns after an impressive freshman campaign. She won a pair of titles at the All-Ohio Championships and set a school record in the 60 meter dash (7.58). Burse also finished fourth in the 60-meter dash at the BIG EAST Championships.

• Head coach Susan Seaton is in his first year as head coach.
• UC finished 10th at the 2008 BIG EAST Indoor Championships, with Monica Hundley grabbing an individual title in the 60-meter hurdles.

Cincinnati travels to Bowling Green State University to compete in the BGSU Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 17.
