IN THE STARTING BLOCKS:

The University of Cincinnati's women's indoor track and field team heads up to Bowling Green, Ohio to compete in the BGSU Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 17. The meet will be hosted at Perry Fieldhouse, with the first event scheduled for competition at 11 a.m. ET.

The meet will include nine colleges and universities competing, which include Bowling Green, Cincinnati, IPFW, Ball State, Ohio, Miami, Eastern Michigan, Oakland, and Toledo .

Price of admission for adults will be five dollars and three dollars for children under the age of 18.

BEARCAT BITES:

· In the first meet of the season, junior Jasmine Cotten broke the school record and recorded a first-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.02 meters (19' 9"). Cotten also recorded a top-five finish in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 8.76 seconds.

· Sophomore Kaylon Eppinger and junior Ashley Arnold both notched third-place showings in the 60-meter hurdles and 400 meters, respectively. Eppinger crossed the line in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.64 seconds, besting her preliminary time by seven-tenths of a second. Arnold finished the 400 meters with a third-place time of 56.11.

· Sophomore Natasha Burse rounded out the top-five finishers for UC after running a time of 7.77 in the 60-meter dash.

· Burse's finish in the 60-meter dash was a BIG EAST Qualifying mark, while Arnold and Eppinger also collected BIG EAST Qualifying marks in the 400 meters and 60-meter hurdles, respectively. Cotten recorded BIG EAST Qualifying marks in the long jump, high jump and 60-meter hurdles.

· Head coach Susan Seaton is in his first year as head coach.

· UC finished 10th at the 2008 BIG EAST Indoor Championships, with Monica Hundley grabbing an individual title in the 60-meter hurdles.

UP NEXT:

Cincinnati travels back to Bloomington, Ind. for the second time in three weeks to compete in the Gladstein Invitational. The Invitational begins on Friday, Jan. 23 and concludes on Saturday, Jan. 24.
