BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Two school records fell in the second day of the Gladstein Invitational as the University of Cincinnati indoor track and field team notched several top finishes against elite competition.
After sophomores Natasha Burse and Mandi Boykin qualified for the finals during Friday's action, the duo record Top 6 finishes in the 60 meter dash. Burse notched a second-place showing for UC with a time of 7.73 seconds, while Boykin ran a time of 7.93 to finish in sixth. Burse added a first-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 25.02.
With a time of 55.35 in the 400 meters, junior Ashley Arnold broke Mary Wineberg's school-record time of 55.54. Arnold's previous best time was 56.96 in 2008.
In her first collegiate event last weekend, freshman Kathy Klump had an impressive win in the 800 meters. However, Klump trumped that performance in the 800 meters at the Gladstein Invitational as Klump broke Jocelyn Gibson's record with a time of 2:12.00. Gibson's school-record mark was 2:12.42.
In the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, freshmen Brianna Patton and Paris Campbell had strong showing with fourth- and fifth-place showings, respectively. Patton ran a time of 9.04, while Campbell crossed the line with a 9.18 showing.
The quartet of Jenna Heaton, Jessica Moyer, Megan McAuley, and Klump collectively took first place in the 4x800 meter relay, recording a time of 9:16.76, besting the next team by more than two seconds.
Sophomore Kaylon Eppinger put together a solid performance in the pentathlon with a score of 3,489, the eighth best mark in school history.
UC returns to action at the Penn State National on Friday, Jan. 30 and Saturday, Jan. 31.
