IN THE STARTING BLOCKS:
The University of Cincinnati's indoor track and field team travels to State College, Pa. to compete in the Penn State National Friday, Jan. 30 and Saturday, Jan. 31. The meet will be hosted at Ashenfelter Multi-Sport Facility , with multi-events beginning at Noon (ET) on Friday.
The meet consists of 47 schools, including seven BIG EAST institutions. Joining Cincinnati from the BIG EAST Conference are Connecticut, Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Villanova, and West Virginia.
BEARCAT BITES:
· In her second collegiate race, freshman Kathy Klump broke the school record in the 800 meters at the Gladstein Invitational with a time of 2:12.00. Klump broke Jocelyn Gibson's record of 2:12.42.
· Sophomore Natasha Burse continued her strong running with a second-place showing in the 60-meter dash and a first-place showing in the 200 meters at the Gladstein Invitational.
· The 4x800 team of Megan McAuley, Jessica Moyer, Jenna Heaton and Klump set the school record in the event with a time of 9:16.76.
· The pole vault continued to be a strong event for UC at the Gladstein Invitational as four Bearcats finished in the Top 8, led by freshman Mackenzie Fields.
· At the Gladstein Invitational, Cincinnati had 14 Top 5 finishes in 16 events.
· Junior Ashley Arnold both set the school record in the 600 meters at the BGSU Challenge with a time of 1:33.66. The previous record was held by Mandy McCumber, who recorded a time of 1:33.90 in 2000.
· The Bearcats thrived in the pole vault at the BGSU Challenge, as all four Bearcat participants that competed in the event scored points. Freshman Mackenzie Fields won the event (11' 11 3/4"), sophomore Michelle Eby finished in second, junior Kayla Dunn tied for fifth, and junior Stefanie Ponte tied for eighth.
· In her first race as a collegian at the BGSU Challenge, freshman Kathy Klump won the 800 meters in a time of 2:13.33. Klump won by nearly two seconds over the next finisher.
· In the first meet of the season, junior Jasmine Cotten broke the school record and recorded a first-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.02 meters (19' 9"). Cotten also recorded a top-five finish in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 8.76 seconds.
· Head coach Susan Seaton is in his first year as head coach.
· UC finished 10th at the 2008 BIG EAST Indoor Championships, with Monica Hundley grabbing an individual title in the 60-meter hurdles.
UP NEXT:
Cincinnati heads down to Lexington, Ky. to compete in the Rod McCravy Invitational Feb. 6-7.
