IN THE STARTING BLOCKS:

The University of Cincinnati's indoor track and field team travels down to Lexington, Ky. to compete in the Rod McCravy Invitational Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7. The meet will be hosted at Nutter Field House , with field events beginning at 5 p.m. (ET) on Friday.

The women's team will compete with 16 other schools, while the men's team will compete with 12 other teams to continue their preparation for the outdoor season.

The Rod McCravy Memorial Track and Field meet is named in honor of McCravy, a former University of Kentucky track athlete who died in 1987 at the age of 19 while sleeping in his dorm room. Although only a sophomore, Rod had already become one of the team's leaders. His charisma and genuine caring for others earned him the respect and admiration of all of his teammates. His personal impact on his teammates, friends and coaches went beyond athletics. A social work major, Rod is remembered as a dedicated, enthusiastic athlete who was a conscientious students and outstanding human being.

BEARCAT BITES:

· Junior Kayla Dunn cleared 12' 00", a personal best, to take first place honors in the pole vault, while sophomore Michelle Eby finished in sixth (11' 00 1/4") at the Penn State National.

· Sophomore Natasha Burse broke the school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.55 seconds at the Penn State National.

· In her second collegiate race, freshman Kathy Klump broke the school record in the 800 meters at the Gladstein Invitational with a time of 2:12.00. Klump broke Jocelyn Gibson's record of 2:12.42.

· The 4x800 team of Megan McAuley, Jessica Moyer, Jenna Heaton and Klump set the school record at the Gladstein Invitational in the event with a time of 9:16.76.

· At the Gladstein Invitational, Cincinnati had 14 Top 5 finishes in 16 events.

· Junior Ashley Arnold both set the school record in the 600 meters at the BGSU Challenge with a time of 1:33.66. The previous record was held by Mandy McCumber, who recorded a time of 1:33.90 in 2000.

· The Bearcats thrived in the pole vault at the BGSU Challenge, as all four Bearcat participants that competed in the event scored points. Freshman Mackenzie Fields won the event (11' 11 3/4"), sophomore Michelle Eby finished in second, junior Kayla Dunn tied for fifth, and junior Stefanie Ponte tied for eighth.

· In her first race as a collegian at the BGSU Challenge, freshman Kathy Klump won the 800 meters in a time of 2:13.33. Klump won by nearly two seconds over the next finisher.

· In the first meet of the season, junior Jasmine Cotten broke the school record and recorded a first-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.02 meters (19' 9"). Cotten also recorded a top-five finish in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 8.76 seconds.

· Head coach Susan Seaton is in his first year as head coach.

· UC finished 10th at the 2008 BIG EAST Indoor Championships, with Monica Hundley grabbing an individual title in the 60-meter hurdles.

UP NEXT:

Cincinnati heads up to Findlay, Ohio to compete in the All-Ohio meet Feb. 13-14.
