WASHINGTON, D.C. - Kahla Roudebush (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) scored a game-high 25 points and knocked down seven three-pointers, but the University of Cincinnati women's basketball team dropped a 69-61 decision against Georgetown on Wednesday (Feb. 11) night in McDonough Memorial Gymnasium.
Roudebush was 7-of-10 from three-point range, a career high and the second-most makes in school history. She scored 20 or more points for the seventh time this season.
Georgetown was hot early, taking a 21-13 lead on a three-pointer by Monica McNutt at the 10:29 mark of the first half. The Hoyas pushed the lead to 11, 37-26, after a Shanice Fuller triple with 3:41 to play. Roudebush hit a three of her own just before halftime to bring the Bearcats within eight at 37-29.
GU hit seven threes in the first half and shot 47 percent from the floor.
UC used a 19-9 run to take a 48-46 lead on a Jill Stephens (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg South) jumper with 11:17 to play.
After the Hoyas took a 56-53 lead, a Shelly Bellman (Ottawa, Ohio/Ottawa-Glandorf) three-pointer knotted the score at the 4:21 mark.
Rubylee Wright scored the next five points to push Georgetown in front 61-56, but another Roudebush three cut the lead back to two with 2:53 to go.
A layup by Adria Crawford pushed the Hoyas lead to four, 63-59, and when Shanasa Sanders (Jacksonville, Fla./Ribault Senior) misfired on a three, the Bearcats were forced to foul with 1:04 to go.
After Fuller missed the front end of a one-and-one, Angel Morgan (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield North) dropped in a floater in the lane that looked to draw the Bearcats within a bucket. However, Morgan was called for a charge on the play and the basket was waived off. It was the fifth foul for the senior guard and three technical fouls were issued to the Bearcats.
GU's Karee Houlette knocked down 5-of-6 technical free throws to push the Hoyas lead to 68-59 with 41 seconds to play, effectively ending the game.
Stephens scored 12 points and added five rebounds for the Bearcats (13-10, 3-7 BIG EAST), who shot 48.1 percent for the game. Morgan, the team's leading rebounder, was limited to 23 minutes due to foul trouble, scoring eight points and grabbing three rebounds.
Georgetown shot 15 free throws, while the Bearcats did not make a trip to the free throw line.
Karee Houlette scored 19 points to lead the Hoyas (14-10, 4-7 BIG EAST), while Monica McNutt was also in double figures with 12.
Georgetown outrebounded the Bearcats, 31-30, and scored 12 second-chance points on 12 offensive rebounds.
UC returns to Fifth Third Arena for a Valentine's Day date with rival Louisville. The Bearcats and Cardinals will tip off at 7 p.m. on Think Pink Day, promoting breast cancer awareness.
