No. 10/11 Football Takes On Miami (OH) In The 114th Battle For The Victory Bell Saturday
The No. 10/11 University of Cincinnati football team heads to Yager Stadium in Oxford, Ohio, on Oct. 3 for the 114th Battle for the Victory Bell against Miami University (OH). Kickoff at Yager Stadium is set for 1 p.m. The Miami-Cincinnati series is the oldest non-conference college football rivalry in the United States. The Bearcats are 4-0 on the young season after knocking off Fresno State, 28-20, at Nippert Stadium on Sept. 26. Miami is coming off a 29-19 road loss to Kent State and will be playing in Yager for the first time this season. The RedHawks opened up the season with a home game against Kentucky at Paul Brown Stadium.
THE SERIES
The two schools have met 113 times on the field with Miami leading the all-time series 59-47-7. UC has won the past three matchups and four out of five. The winner of the yearly contest takes possession of the Victory Bell for the next year.
THE COACHES
Brian Kelly, the two-time reigning BIG EAST Coach of the Year, is in his third full season at the helm of the Cincinnati football program with a 26-6 record and a 19-year career mark of 163-57-2. Kelly led the Bearcats to a school-record 11 wins, a BIG EAST Championship, and a Bowl Championship Series game berth in 2008. He won two NCAA Division II National Championships at Grand Valley State and led Central Michigan to the 2006 Mid-American Conference Championship. He is the leader in victories among active BIG EAST coaches and is the only current BIG EAST coach with 150 or more career wins.
Michael Haywood is 0-4 in his first season with the RedHawks.
A LOOK AHEAD
UC will have 12 days between games, heading to Tampa, Fla. on Oct. 15 for a Thursday night matchup with the USF Bulls at Raymond James Stadium. The game will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. and be televised nationally by ESPN.
