CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened up the 2009-10 season with a sweep of the titles in the 2009 Crosstown Splashdown over rival Xavier University at the Keating Aquatic Center. The men knocked off Xavier 121-82 while the women beat the Musketeers 115-90.

Stephanie Conklin, Lange Gilby, Liz Hansson, Jeremy Peter, Josh Schneider, and Nathan Williams all were multiple individual even winners on the night.

The 200 medley relay quartet of Liz Hansson, Stephanie Conklin, Elinore de Jong, and Lange Gilby opened up the meet with a win after clocking 1:58.63. The men's group of Nick Saul, Jeremy Peter, Andrew Birnbrich, and Josh Schneider clocked in at 1:46.27 to earn top honors in the men's 200 medley relay.

Stephen Cunningham grabbed first place in the 800 freestyle with a time of 8:37.03. Hansson led Bree Rossi and Bailey Laban to a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 freestyle. Hansson led the way with a 2:06.27, Rossi was second (2:10.14), and Laban was third (2:13.64). Nathan Williams (1:56.26) and Brad Langford (1:58.43) placed first and second in the men's 200 freestyle.

Gilby and Alicia Berman finished 1-2 in the women's 50 freestyle with times of 26.73 and 27.92, respectively. Schneider and Matt Hays took the top two spots in the men's 50 freestyle after timing it at 22.80 and 24.25, respectively.

Conklin (2:27.45) and Peter (2:09.00) each took first place in the 200 individual medley. The duo also swept the top spots in the 100 breaststroke, Conklin winning in 1:14.86, and Peter winning in 1:04.44.

DeJong clocked 1:05.70 while Ryan Weitzel clocked 59.62 to earn first place in the 100 butterfly.

Gilby, Rossi, and Laban swept the top-three spots in the 100 freestyle with times of 58.89, 1:00.33, and 1:00.76, respectively. Schneider grabbed his second event win of the night with a 51.60 time in the men's 100 freestyle.

Hansson grabbed another event win after her 1:05.14 clocking in the 100 backstroke. Saul earned an individual win as well with his time of 59.30 in the 100 backstroke.

Williams was another multiple event winner after finishing in 4:11.07 to take the top spot in the 400 freestyle.

The Bearcats return to action the weekend of Friday, Nov. 6, and Saturday, Nov. 7, facing off against BIG EAST rivals West Virginia, and Pittsburgh on the road. The matchup with the Mountaineers will start at 5 p.m. on Friday and the meet at Pittsburgh will get underway at 1 p.m. Saturday.
