CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati indoor track and field team released its schedule for the upcoming 2009-10 campaign, head coach Susan Seaton announced today. The 2010 slate features a competitive mix of national and local destinations for the Bearcats.
"We are excited about our upcoming schedule. It is the most competitive in school history," said Seaton. "As we continue our quest for Big East prominence, we will challenge our team more than ever by competing on a national level in three of our six regular-season meets."
The Bearcats kick off the season with the annual Red and Black intrasquad meet held at the historic Armory Fieldhouse on Friday, Dec. 4, on the UC campus. December 11-12, UC will head to Kent, Ohio, for the Golden Flash Gala, UC's only meet before winter break.
The New Year will see the Bearcats compete on five consecutive weekends starting with the Indiana Open in Bloomington, Ind., on Saturday, Jan. 9. UC will also compete at the Quad Meet at Akron, Ohio (Jan. 15), before being exposed to two high profile meets at the Gladstein Invitational at Indiana University (Jan. 22-23) and the Rod McCravy Invitational at the University of Kentucky (Jan. 29-30).
The highlight meet of the regular-season will be the New Balance Invitational at the world-class Armory Track in New York City on February 20-21. UC will be pitted against 20 of the Top 30 teams nationally in addition to eight conference foes.
After a gauntlet of meets the Bearcats will have a much-deserved week off before returning to New York City for the 2010 BIG EAST Championships on Feb. 20-21. Last season, Cincinnati finished a program-best seventh place at the meet and look to improve upon that performance in 2010.
Cincinnati returns a host of letterwinners from last year's squad, including 2009 BIG EAST Indoor Field Athlete of the Year and NCAA participant in the pentathlon, Jasmine Cotten. In addition to Cotten, UC welcomes back Ashley Arnold, Natasha Burse, Paris Campbell, Hauna Dawkins, Kayla Dunn, Michelle Eby, Mackenzie Fields, Chelsea Gerken, Lilian Jelimo, Kathy Klump, Tamara Masters, Stefanie Ponte, and Aricka Rhodes; all of which were BIG EAST Conference participants a year ago.
