OXFORD, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving squads opened up action at the 16th Annual Miami Invitational Thursday night at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
The men's squad leads the six-team meet after two events with 160 points. Wright State is on the Bearcats' heels in second (159), followed by Oakland (146), Denison (96), Miami (49), and Emory (46).
On the women's side, the Bearcats are in eighth with 67 points. Florida Gulf Coast leads (134), followed by Miami (126), Wright State (120), Denison (108), Emory (95), Oakland (93), and Illinois (90).
Nathan Williams was second in the 1,650-yard freestyle, clocking in at 15:54.45 in the long-distance event. Stephen Cunningham was fourth with a 16:07.08 clocking and Nate Kramer was fifth with a time of 16:22.47.
The men's 800-freestyle relay quartet of Nick Saul, Williams, Kramer, and Matt Hays placed second with a time of 6:51.33. The women's team, made up of Lange Gilby, Liz Hansson, Anna Bersani, and Laurie Caudy, was seventh with a 7:39.44 clocking.
The Miami Invitational continues Friday with prelims starting at 9 a.m. and finals following at 6 p.m. Friday morning's events include the 200 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 400 IM, and 50 freestyle.
