CINCINNATI - After nearly a month break from its first meet of the season, the University of Cincinnati women's indoor track and field squad is back in action this weekend when it competes at the Indiana Open in Bloomington, Ind. The meet will take place at the Gladstein Fieldhouse on Saturday, Jan. 9, with track events beginning at 11 a.m. and field events starting at 11:30 a.m.

"After a month long break, the team is ready to get back into competition mode," said head coach Susan Seaton. "We expect some good early marks from our key athletes and look forward to competing at a national level track at Indiana."

In its first meet of the season at the Golden Flashes Gala in Kent, Ohio, UC had several solid performances to kick off the season. Junior Jasmine Cotten picked up right where she left off last season with a 469-point victory in the heptathlon. Cotten's score of 4,056 was an NCAA Provisional mark and she missed out on an NCAA Automatic mark by just 19 points.

On Day 2 of the meet, UC registered two first-place finishes and two second-place showings. Sophomore Jenna Heaton won the 1,000 meters taking first-place honors with a time of 2:59.33, marking her first victory at UC in individual competition. The other win came from the quartet of Shanay Portis , Alyssa Edley , Aricka Rhodes , and Ashley Arnold , who captured the 4x400 meter relay title in a time of 3:52.01.

Junior Natasha Burse clocked in at 7.71 in the 60 meters to finish second in her best event, while sophomore Paris Campbell's time of 8.92 in the 60 hurdles also placed her second.
