CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving squad dropped a pair of dual meets to BIG EAST Conference rival Louisville, Saturday at the Keating Aquatics Center. The men's team fell 208-91 to the Cardinals, while the women dropped a 231-69 decision.
The Bearcats picked up five individual event wins with Josh Schneider taking top honors in three races and Nathan Williams winning a pair.
Schneider, currently ranked second nationally in the 50 freestyle and fifth in the 100 butterfly, clocked 20.12 to win the 50 freestyle Saturday. He also swam 44.80 to take first in the 100 freestyle, and won the 100 butterfly in 50.16.
Williams tallied a time of 1:41.79 in the 200 freestyle to earn the win and also clocked 4:35.91 to take the top spot in the 500 freestyle.
In the mile, or 1,650 freestyle, Stephen Cunningham swam a time of 16:09.53 to place third.
Elinore de Jong swam a strong race in the women's 100 butterfly, placing second in 57.69, just off the pace of Nicole Landisch, who took first in 56.55.
Stephanie Conklin placed third in both the women's 100 and 200 breaststroke, clocking 2:27.37 in the 200 and 1:06.97 in the 100. Lange Gilby timed in at 52.63 to take third place in the 100 freestyle. Laurie Caudy also earned a third place finish with her 2:07.01 showing in the 200 butterfly.
Gilby (24.15) and de Jong (24.72) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the women's 50 freestyle event. Anna Bersani earned a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke with her effort of 1:00.85.
Bailey Laban (1:58.08), Charlotte Nilsson (1:59.78), and Bree Rossi (2:00.47) placed 3-4-5, respectively, in the 200 freestyle.
The women's 400-medley relay group of Bersani, Conklin, de Jong, and Gilby placed second with a 3:57.71 effort, while the men's foursome of Nick Saul, Britton Van Dissel, Ryan Weitzel, and Matt Hays was third with a time of 3:32.66.
In the final race of the day, the men's 400-freestyle relay placed second behind the Cardinals. The quartet of Schneider, Matt Hays, Roberto Nevarez, and Williams finished in 3:07.26, just behind the UofL team who placed first in 3:06.71.
The women's 400-freestyle relay group of Bersani, de Jong, Alicia Berman, and Gilby was third in a time of 3:36.76.
UC returns to the pool on Friday, Jan. 15, taking on Miami (OH) at 5 p.m. EST in Oxford, Ohio.
