BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - In its first meet in nearly a month, the University of Cincinnati women's indoor track and field team had several impressive performances at the Indiana Open hosted by Indiana University Saturday at the Gladstein Fieldhouse. Senior Jasmine Cotten led the way registering Cincinnati's lone top finish on the day with a school-record mark in the long jump.
Cotten broke the school-record in the long jump with a leap of 19' 9-3/4", besting her previous PR in the event of 19' 9, which also happened to be the previous school record. Cotten also added a fourth-place finish in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.81.
Junior Natasha Burse led UC in the sprinting events with two Top-3 finishes in the 60 meters and the 200 meters. Burse posted the top time in the preliminaries of the 60 meters, before finishing second in the finals with a time of 7.73. Burse followed that performance by clocking in at 25.40 in the 200 meters to place third.
Sophomore Aricka Rhodes posted the top mark for the Bearcats in the 400 meters, finishing behind unattached runner and former UC track and field athlete and Olympic Gold Medal winner Mary Wineberg in second place. Rhodes posted her personal best time in the event with a time of 56.66, which topped her previous best time by 0.71 seconds.
Sophomore Kathy Klump added a second-place finish of her own in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.35, while sophomore Mackenzie Fields also added a second-place finish of her own with a clearance of 12' 1-1/2" in the pole vault.
Finally, the quartet of Shanay Portis, Rhodes, Alyssa Edley, and Ashley Arnold missed out on the 4x400 relay title by just 0.18 seconds after crossing the line in a time of 3:52.76.
The squad has just six days off before returning to the track on Friday, Jan. 15, in Akron, Ohio, at the Akron Quad Meet.
