CINCINNATI - After finishing a program-best seventh place at the 2009 BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships, the University of Cincinnati women's indoor track & field squad looks to improve upon its finish last season when it heads to New York City for the 2010 BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships Feb. 20-21 at the Armory Track.

Two weeks ago, the Bearcats competed in their final tune-up for the conference meet at the Armory Track in the New Balance Invitational, giving UC some familiarity with the track heading into its biggest meet of the year.

"We are excited to compete against some elite competition at a great venue," said head coach Susan Seaton. "We have improved throughout the season and we look to continue our improvement in the BIG EAST Conference."

Senior Jasmine Cotten looks to defend her 2009 BIG EAST Most Outstanding Field Performer title this season as she enters the weekend ranked third nationally in the indoor pentathlon. Cotten will compete in the pentathlon, the high jump, and the long jump.

Cincinnati's deepest event is the pole vault, where the Bearcats have four athletes competing. Sophomore Mackenzie Fields has posted the top mark among the four with a clearance of 13' 1-1/2" twice this season, which ranks second in the UC record books. Fields, sophomore Michelle Eby, senior Kayla Dunn, and senior Stefanie Ponte all have the ability to finish in the Top-8 and score points for Cincinnati.

Other multi-event athletes for UC include freshman Shanay Portis, sophomore Jenna Heaton, sophomore Aricka Rhodes, sophomore Kathy Klump, junior Natasha Burse, senior Ashley Arnold, senior Lilian Jelimo, senior Jocelyn McAuley, and senior Tamara Masters.
