Saturday Preliminaries Results

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving squad qualified seven for the Saturday evening finals, including a pair of top seeds, as the final day of action got started at the 2010 BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships at Trees Pool in Pittsburgh. Jeremy Peter took the No. 1 seed in the A final of the men's 200 breaststroke after clocking a school-record and NCAA B time of 1:58.42 in the morning action. Peter broke his own school record of 1:58.84, set in 2008.

Mike Whipkey just missed out qualifying for the B final in the same event, clocking 2:08.77 to place 19th. Ethan McNeil was 22nd in 2:09.63, and Britton Van Dissel placed 26th (2:10.68).

For the third-straight day, Josh Schneider earned the top seed in a championship final. The senior swam an NCAA B time of 43.86 in the preliminaries of the men's 100 freestyle, just off his school- and BIG EAST meet record time of 43.08. He was won a pair of BIG EAST individual crowns through three days of action.

Roberto Nevarez was 23rd after clocking 46.68, Matt Hays was 26th (46.90), Tim Kasburg snagged 27th (46.96), and Daniel Oldham placed 39th (48.40).

Elinore de Jong qualified for her second A final in as many days, earning the No. 6 seed in the women's 100 freestyle. She swam a time of 50.59. Lange Gilby grabbed the No. 3 seed in the B final with her swim of 51.01. Bailey Laban just missed qualifying for the B final, placing 19th with her effort of 51.46. Alicia Berman placed 29th (52.71), Sarah Krone was 36th (53.77), and Anna Bersani was 37th (53.79).

Stephanie Conklin earned the No. 8 seed in the A final of the women's 200 breaststroke with her morning swim of 2:18.99. Erin Mullins placed 23rd (2:24.12), Emma Misanik took 25th (2:26.68), and Renee DeSalle placed finished 32nd (2:30.19).

Liz Hansson grabbed the No. 5 seed in the A final of the 200 backstroke with a personal best time of 1:59.57. Erin Frye and Anna Bersani earned the seventh and eighth spots in the B final with their respective times of 2:03.75 and 2:03.83.

Nick Saul placed 21st in the men's 200 backstroke with his effort of 1:54.57. Bill Griffin was 23rd (1:55.04), and Kurt Ramer timed in at 25th (1:55.77).

Laurie Caudy clocked a time of 2:05.05 in the women's 200 butterfly to earn the No. 6 seed in the B final Saturday evening. Brittany Grone was 28th with her effort of 2:09.23.

Ryan Weitzel placed 17th in the men's 200 butterfly, just missing a spot in the B final. He clocked 1:53.83 in his heat.

Finals get underway at 6 p.m. at Trees Pool.
