A pool record fell and the University of Cincinnati swimming and diving squad had some strong performances, but it was not enough to overcome BIG EAST Conference rival Pittsburgh and the Bearcats dropped a pair of dual meets, Friday at the Keating Aquatics Center.
The men's team dropped a 172-71 decision while the women's squad fell by a 177.5-67.5 margin.
Nate Kramer set a KAC pool record of 9:35.05 in the men's 1,000-yard freestyle event, taking first place by over four seconds. Kramer led wire-to-wire and broke Paul Richard's 2008 mark of 9:35.99.
Nathan Williams snagged the top spot in the 200 freestyle, clocking 1:40.99 and coming in just ahead of teammate Stephen Cunningham who was second in 1:41.94. Williams also won the 200 butterfly with his time of 1:52.72.
Cunningham won the closest race of the night, coming from third place in the final laps to win the men's 500 freestyle with a time of 4:37.44. Kramer had led most of the way and took second in 4:38.23 while Pittsburgh's Morne Boshoff was third (4:38.41).
Liz Hansson clocked 2:03.36 to earn a three-second win in the women's 200 backstroke.
Hansson, Stephanie Conklin, Laurie Caudy, and Bailey Laban took the second spot in the 200-medley relay, clocking 1:47.72.
Brittany Teneyck and Kirtley Krombholz went 1-2 in the women's 3-meter event. Teneyck led the way with a total of 293.10 with Krombholz in second with her total of 259.57. Teneyck also grabbed a second-place finish in the 1-meter event, tallying 265.80 points.
Haywood Miller grabbed a pair of second place finishes in the 400 IM (4:07.21) and 200 breaststroke (2:08.79).
Josefin Wede won her first race swimming for the Bearcats after she clocked 2:20.40 in the 200 breaststroke.
Hansson led off the 400-freestyle relay for the Bearcats 'A' squad and helped them to a second-place finish along with Caudy, Alicia Berman, and Bree Rossi. The quartet clocked 3:33.78 for the race.
Caudy added a second place in the 200 butterfly with her time of 2:05.67.
Kramer, Nathan Williams, Chris Hale, and Matt Hays combined for a time of 3:12.29 to place second in the men's 400-meter freestyle relay.
UC is back in the pool Saturday, taking on West Virginia at the Keating Aquatics Center. Diving is set to being at 11 a.m. with swimming events slated for a 1 p.m. start. Admission is free for all fans.
