WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving squad wrapped up day one of action at the Purdue Invitational at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Ind.
The Bearcats joined Arkansas, Louisville, Michigan, Missouri State, Ohio State, host Purdue, and Southern Illinois in the pool this weekend.
The men's team is sixth after 12 events with 56 points while the women's squad sits seventh with 48 points.
The women's 200 freestyle relay team of Liz Hansson, Laurie Caudy, Weronika Wasiakowska, and Bailey Laban grabbed 10th place with their clocking of 1:36.00.
The B quartet of Bree Rossi, Sammie Wheeler, Kinsey Kowalski, and Alicia Berman was 14th in 1:37.94, the C group of Josefin Wede, Katie Nemann, Brittany Grone, and Erin Frye placed 24th (1:41.21), and the D team of Anna Bersani, Kirsten Rissover, Victoria Jacumski, and Melody Smith placed 25th (1:42.87).
The men's foursome of Rob Walsh, Nathan Williams, Matt Hays, and Roberto Nevarez took 13th place in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:26.40.
The B team of Seth Poitinger, Haywood Miller, Chris Hale, and Stephen Cunningham was on their heels in 14th (1:29.01), with the C group of Daniel Oldham, Britton Van Dissel, Nate Kramer, and Joe Scherpenberg behind them in 15th place (1:29.48).
Nathan Williams placed fifth in the B final of the 500 yard freestyle with his effort of 4:33.49.
Hansson won the C final of the women's 200 IM. She clocked 2:04.54 to win by almost half a second over second place Lisa Narum from Ohio State.
Laban took second in the C final of the women's 50 freestyle. The sophomore clocked 23.97 finishing just behind Mary Mittel of Louisville who won in 23.74.
The women's 400 medley relay team of Hansson, Wede, Caudy, and Laban covered the course in 3:50.54 to place 10th.
The B team of Frye, Stephanie Conklin, Grone, and Wasiakowska was 17th (3:57.14), the C group of Bersani, Wheeler, Kowalski, and Berman took 19th in 4:00.03. The D quartet of Amanda Hardewig, Jacumski, Renee DeSalle, and Rossi was disqualified for a swimmer leaving the block early on an exchange.
In the men's race, the quartet of Matt Hargrove, Mike Whipkey, Oldham, and Poitinger took 14th in 3:42.52. Both the A (Metzler, Miller, Williams, and Hays) and B (Scherpenberg, Van Dissel, Nevarez, and Walsh) were DQ'd for leaving the blocks early on exchanges.
