WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving squad put day two of swimming into the books at the Purdue Invitational inside the Boilermaker Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Ind.
With one day remaining in the event, the men sit sixth with 109 points while the women are seventh with 103 points.
The women's 200 medley relay team of Erin Frye, Stephanie Conklin, Laurie Caudy, and Bailey Laban took 14th place with their effort of 1:47.41. The C quartet of Weronika Wasiakowska, Josefin Wede, Kinsey Kowalski, and Sammie Wheeler finished 17th in 1:48.40. The B squad of Anna Bersani, Victoria Jacumski, Brittany Grone, and Alicia Berman was 22nd in 1:49.67 and the D group of Amanda Hardewig, Renee DeSalle, Bree Rossi, and Kirsten Rissover placed 26th with a time of 1:55.60.
On the men's side, the Bearcats finished 14-15-16 with times of 1:37.56, 1:37.56, and 1:39.10, respectively. The A group of Brandon Metzler, Haywood Miller, Roberto Nevarez, and Matt Hays was in 14th, followed by the B team of Joe Scherpenberg, Britton Van Dissel, Daniel Oldham, and Rob Walsh in 15th, and Chris Hale, Mike Whipkey, Adam Monk, and Seth Poitinger in 16th.
Caudy was sixth in the C final of the 100 butterfly, clocking 57.44 in the race.
Liz Hansson took fourth place in the B final of the women's 200 freestyle with her effort of 1:50.56. Nathan Williams was eighth in the B final of the men's 200 freestyle event. He timed in at 1:43.47.
Stephanie Conklin was second in the C final of the 100 breaststroke, clocking 1:05.57 just behind heat winner Melissa Oishi of Missouri State (1:04.84).
Van Dissel won the C final in the men's 100-yard breaststroke, clocking 1:00.63 to edge out Purdue's Ryan Dafforn (1:00.95) at the wire. Miller placed third in the heat with a time of 1:01.06, Whipkey was fifth in 1:01.39, and Matt Hargrove was seventh in 1:05.72.
Hansson was fifth in the B final of the 100 backstroke with her time of 57.10. Metzler (52.85) and Scherpenberg (54.37) took second and sixth, respectively, in the C final of the men's 100 backstroke.
The 800-freestyle relay group of Laban, Hansson, Kowalski, and Rossi placed 17th with a time of 7:47.76. The C group of Hardewig, Wasiakowska, Wheeler, and Jacumski was 18th in 7:53.69, the B group of Nemann, Caudy, Conklin, and Bersani clocked 7:55.94 to place 19th, and the D quartet of Berman, Melody Smith, Rissover, and Desalle took 21st in 8:08.53.
In the men's 800 freestyle race, Steven Cunningham, Williams, Nate Kramer, and Hale combined to place eighth with a time of 6:55.12. Hays, Nevarez, Poitinger, and Rob Walsh made up the B team and placed 13th with a time of 7:11.59. The C group of Scherpenberg, Nathan Spruill, Whipkey, and Hargrove were 14th with a time of 7:26.43.
