A freshman Lance Stephenson 3-pointer with 42 seconds capped off a 13-4 run from the 5:22 mark of the second half to the 42-second mark and tied tie the game at 51, but West Virginia's Da'Sean Butler banked in a 3-pointer as time expired to give West Virginia the 54-51 win.
The loss dropped Cincinnati to 2-4 all-time in the BIG EAST Tournament.
Cincinnati also fell to 3-6 against teams ranked in the Top 25 of the Associated Press poll.
UC now leads the all-time series 10-8, with WVU owning a 2-1 lead over the Bearcats when playing at a neutral site.
The Mountaineers outscored Cincinnati 18-10 on second-chance points.
The Bearcats went on a 19-4 run over a 9:16 stretch of the first half to even the game at 23 after trailing by 14 points, but a Jonnie West 3-pointer with two seconds to play in the opening 20 minutes gave the Mountaineers a 26-23 lead entering the half.
After missing its first 10 shots from the floor, Cincinnati hit 8-of-15 (53.3 percent) of its shots in the final 9:18 of the first half.
Individual
Stephenson led all players with 19 points and had a game-high tying seven rebounds. The 19 points marked Stephenson's 21st double-figure scoring effort of the season.
Sophomore Yancy Gates was the other Bearcat to finish in double figures with 11 points. Gates also added seven rebounds.
Senior Deonta Vaughn had two assists in the game, movinged him into a tie for first on UC's all-time assists chart with Eddie Lee (1976-80) with 500 career assists.
