Swimming & Diving Falls In Road Dual At Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving team, swimming its second meet in less than 24 hours, dropped a pair of dual meets to BIG EAST Conference rival Louisville, Saturday at the Ralph Wright Natatorium. The men dropped a 214-69 decision and the women fell by a 211-83 margin.

Nathan Williams took third place in the men's 1,650 freestyle event. The senior clocked 16:02.13 for the race.

Liz Hansson grabbed third in the women's 200 freestyle race, clocking 1:53.87. Erin Frye placed second in the women's 100 backstroke with a time of 59.03. Kurt Ramer took third in the men's event with his effort of 54.19.

Laurie Caudy placed second in the 200 butterfly, scoring a time of 2:04.37.

Lindsay Bakan tallied 269.41 points to place third in the women's 1-meter diving event, just ahead of teammate Kirtley Krombholz who was fourth in 265.41.

Bailey Laban was third in the women's 100 freestyle with her effort of 53.27.

Hansson scored another second place finish in the 200 backstroke, clocking 2:04.91 for the race. Ramer was third in the men's race with his effort of 1:57.60.

Stephanie Conklin finished third in the women's 200 breaststroke after clocking 2:19.20 in her race. Haywood Miller added a third in the men's race with his time of 2:08.02.

Conklin and Melody Smith placed 2-3 in the women's 500 freestyle with times of 5:20.59 and 5:25.96, respectively. Williams, Stephen Cunningham, and Nate Kramer went 2-3-4 in the men's 500, earning times of 4:39.90, 4:45.34, and 4:49.46, respectively.

Caudy took second in the 100-yard butterfly, just missing the victory with her time of 57.11 compared to the winning 57.03 from Louisville's Lacey Bobo. Roberto Nevarez took second in 51.97 and Adam Monk was third in 55.14 in the men's 100 butterfly event.

Krombholz and Bakan went 2-3 in the women's 3-meter diving event with point totals of 290.03 and 270.98, respectively.

Hansson swam a time of 2:10.02 in the women's 200 IM, placing second, ahead of Sammie Wheeler, who placed third in 2:12.29. Miller and Mike Whipkey were second and third in the men's 200 IM, clocking times of 1:58.74 and 2:02.52, respectively.

UC finished 2-3 in the women's 800-freestyle relay. The quartet of Caudy, Amanda Hardewig, Kinsey Kowalski, and Laban was second in 7:50.92 while the foursome of Alicia Berman, Anna Bersani, Kirsten Rissover, and Shannon Conners was third in 8:22.29.

In the men's 800 relay, Nevarez, Kramer, Cunningham, and Williams took second in 7:03.85 while Joe Scherpenberg, Seth Poitinger, Chris Hale, and Matt Hays took third in 7:27.49.

UC returns to action next weekend, participating in a quad meet at Kenyon College against Kenyon, Ashland University, and Oakland University.
