With one out and runners at first and second in the bottom of the 10th inning, St. John's freshman catcher Frankie Schwindel hit a walk-off single to left field, scoring pinch runner Kevin Grove to end the game.
The Bearcats, who trailed 2-0 through four innings, exploded for four runs in the fifth. Cincinnati was clinging to a 4-3 lead before its fortunes turned in the ninth inning. Bearcats starting second baseman Sam Vandenheuvel (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) was moved to pitcher with a runner on second base and one out in the ninth to try to close out the game, but gave up a single to SJU infielder Matt Wessinger that tied the game 4-4
