CINCINNATI -- The University of Cincinnati track and field men's team are in third place after one day of competition at the All-Ohio Outdoor Championship at Gettler Stadium on Friday afternoon. The day was highlighted in the field by junior Jake Haseman, who took first in the men's discus with a toss of 48.92m. On the women's side, freshman Kaitlyn Good leads the heptathlon with 4586 points after four events.
Also among UC's top finishers was redshirt freshman Josh Dangel, who tied for second in the pole vault with a jump of 4.75m.
In addition to Haseman, senior Troy Cooper (46.26m) finished fourth and newcomer Josh Ballenger (41.93m) placed eighth to round out the competition in the discus throw.
Earlier in the day, two Bearcats participated in the decathlon. Through day one, freshmen Kyle Kubera and Nick Furney are fifth (3068) and seventh (4887), respectively. Akron's Bryan Jones leads the group with 3546 points after placing first in three out of four events.
Fellow freshman CharAnna Dixon is currently in sixth place (2225) in the heptathlon.
Sophomore Bridget McNeill earned ninth in the hammer with a mark of 48.69m, followed by senior Catherine Earl in tenth place (48.00m). Freshmen Frida Akerstrom (46.04m) and Jessica Molyet (39.89m) rounded out Cincinnati's competitors. Also in the field, freshman Mary Bridges finished tenth in the javelin (31.65m).
In the distance events, sophomore Courtney Staruch took tenth with a time of 11:42.09 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while veteran harrier David Barry (9:25.28) and sophomore runner Chase Beckmann (9:37.17) placed third and fifth, respectively, in the men's equivalent race.
In the final event of the day, senior Jill Glassmeyer finished eighth (37:53.54). For the men, freshman Kevin Fink (31:37.79) finished fifth, while senior Tommy Morgan (31:10.66) and freshman Eric Hauser (32:57.11) crossed the line eighth and 13th, respectively.
The action will continue tomorrow beginning with the remainder of the multi-events at 9 a.m.
